The ‘Hindu flag’ was uprooted by a Muslim mob in Kawardha, Chhattisgarh. Durgesh Devangan was thrashed fiercely for opposing this. If media reports are to be believed, Durgesh’s identity is still not known. So far 29 arrests have been made in this case. It is worth noting that the VHP had demonstrated for the arrest of these accused, after which the Chhattisgarh Police had accused them of inciting violence by bringing people from outside. In this case, allegations of unilateral action on the Chhattisgarh Police and targeting of Hindus have also been made since the beginning.

In such a situation, the direct question arises that where is Durgesh Devangan? What is the Chhattisgarh Police trying to hide? It is noteworthy that in this whole episode, local MLA and minister of Congress government of Chhattisgarh Mohammad Akbar is also being accused of giving protection to the rioters.

According to the report, Durgesh was beaten up at Lohara Naka of City Kotwali. The incident happened on 3 October. Durgesh had opposed the removal of the Hindu flag and trampling it under his feet. After this, people of a particular community beat him fiercely. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had demonstrated on October 5, demanding the arrest of the accused in the same case. After which the administration was accused of harassing Hindus only.

According to the report, 29 arrests have been made in this case so far. Among them are the main accused Rizwan and Salman. There is also news of a sharp knife being recovered from Salman. The two accused Idris Khan and Wazir Khan were arrested on Tuesday (12 October 2021). Earlier on Monday, 11 accused were arrested. 16 others had already been arrested earlier. Police have identified these accused through technical evidence, photography, videography, CCTV footage etc.

Those arrested are: Syed Mahfooz Ali, Faizal Khan, Nasir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Sarfaraz Khan, Sajid Ali, Riyaz Hingora, Ayaz Khan, Shohit Khan, Mohammad Israel, Shahid Khan, Sadiq Qureshi, Mohammad Khan, Mohd. Imran, Taufeeq Mohammad, Syed Mehboob, Rehan and so on. All the arrested accused belong to the same community. All of them have been booked under the offense number 801/2021 under section 147, 148, 294 295 of the Indian Penal Code in Kawardha. 323, 506 B IPC, section 294, 336, 147 IPC under the offense number 802/21, offense number 804/21 Cases are registered under sections 147, 148, 353, 332, 153-A, 427, 295 IPC, 25, 27 Arms Act. Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act has also been imposed on all of them.

The video of the attack on Durgesh also went viral on social media.

No one has any information about Durgesh after this incident. Durgesh’s family is worried about the possibility of something untoward. They say that the police had taken Durgesh in his vehicle. On the other hand, Kawardha police have denied having Durgesh in their custody. Durgesh lived in ward number 27 of Kawardha. On Sunday (October 10, 2021), when the Sadbhavna rally taken out in the presence of senior district officials reached Durgesh’s ward, his mother and sister had appealed to the officials to find Durgesh. According to the parents, Durgesh is the only boy in the family.

According to local media reports on Durgesh’s disappearance, officials say that they do not have any exact information about Durgesh. According to administrative officials, search is on for Durgesh. He also appealed to the common people to help the administration in this matter.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Dr. Raman Singh has visited Durgesh’s house and met his family members. According to the report, during this time Durgesh’s mother said that after the incident, her son was taken by the police in a car. Since then his son is missing. The former Chief Minister has assured him of all possible help.

Raman Singh has accused the Congress government of adopting a policy of appeasement in this matter. He said that under the pressure of the minister, the administration has so far arrested more than 100 people for the purpose of torture. Demanding a judicial inquiry into the entire episode, he reached Durg Central Jail on October 11 and also met those people, who are being accused of implicating the administration.
