A senior Ukrainian military official said Russian troops are continuing their attempts to launch simultaneous attacks in various directions in the east of the country and are now launching even more attack aircraft.

Kiev’s counteroffensive, aimed at retaking occupied territory in the south and east of the country, could not progress as quickly as expected due to heavy mines and strong defense lines of Russian troops.

In mid-October, Russian troops launched a major offensive operation near the eastern town of Avdiivka, followed by concentration on other front lines in the east.

On Tuesday, the commander of Ukrainian ground forces, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, said that Russia attacked Ukrainian positions near Kupyansk despite high losses.

“In addition, the enemy has increased the use of kamikaze drones,” he said on Telegram messenger.

“Russian troops in the north and south of Bakhmut are trying to seize the initiative by launching counter-attacks. But our defenders thwart all the plans and attempts of the invaders to seize our lands,” Syrskyi added.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Tuesday that he had received military reports about an increasing number of attacks in the east, including in the Avdiivka direction.

He added that Ukrainian forces are holding the ground and continuing offensive operations. Reuters could not independently verify the battlefield reports.
