Tension in Coimbatore after Molotov cocktails hurled at BJP headquarters, textile shop RS News

Tension prevailed in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore on Thursday night as Molotov cocktails were thrown at the BJP headquarters and a garment shop in the city. Though these incidents did not cause any major damage, several police personnel were deployed across the city to prevent any untoward incident.

“No one has been taken into custody so far. We are still probing,” said an official from Coimbatore South ACP office.

According to the CCTV footage released by the police, a Molotov cocktail was thrown near the BJP office on VKK Menon Road at around 8.37 pm. While the scenes show a bottle landing near the sidewalk, they do not show the person who threw it.

Similarly, on Oppanakara Street, a surveillance camera shows a person receiving something from a person on a bike. Then he throws it at a garment shop.

Police said five special teams have been formed to nab the accused and additional security has been provided at the BJP headquarters and other sensitive areas. Police patrolling has also been increased.

The incidents come at a time when the city is under strict vigil in the wake of the arrest of BJP district president Balaji Uttamramasamy for conducting raids against DMK MP Raja and some prominent National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) people. . While BJP workers staged a sit-in in Gandhipuram and demanded police action against the perpetrators, state party president K Annamalai said on Twitter that these incidents will not deter their workers and will only strengthen their resolve to fight against the forces.
