NEW DELHI: Suryakumar Yadav will captain India in the five-match T20 series against Australia, leading a squad comprising just three members of the team that lost the World Cup final.

India entered Sunday’s World Cup final undefeated in the tournament’s preliminary matches in front of nearly 100,000 fans in Ahmedabad and emerged as favorites to capture the one-day crown.

But Rohit Sharma’s team fell short to Pat Cummins’ Australia, suffering a six-wicket defeat and breaking the hearts of millions across the country.

Suryakumar, one of only three players from the one-day squad to be selected in the T20 squad, will captain India for the first time.

India and Australia faced each other in a three-match series in September before the World Cup, which was also held in India and the hosts won 2-1.
