Silvassa. On Durgashtami of Navratri, various religious programs like worship, aarti etc. were organized in temples and societies. In the Gayatri temple, group worship, havan, Durga recitation and Maha Aarti were performed. Jaap rituals and havanadi were completed in Bhavani temple. Devotees donated Prasad and white clothes to the needy.
Durga Ashtami has special significance in Shardiya Navratri. Mahagauri, the eighth form of the goddess, is worshiped to avoid filthiness and Shiva’s ardhangini. In the societies, the organizers put incense, lamp, incense sticks, turmeric, saffron, rice colored with kumkum, cardamom, clove, cashew, pistachio, almond, rose flowers, charouli, coconut, Ganga water, black gram and ghee in front of the statue of the mother. By offering prasad, recitation of sources, yagya-havan and rituals were performed. The devotees of the mother made offerings in turn, chanting Karuna and Dayadevi. In the Panchayat Market Navratri Festival, devotees reached for the darshan of the mother after special worship on Ashtami.
In the villages also, on Ashtami, Adishakti was worshiped by law. After offering prayers and havan at Bindrabin Gayatri Temple, prasad was distributed to the devotees by applying tilak.
