road safety advertisement shared by Nitin Gadkari and Akshay encouraged dowry RS News

Sometimes if we show the things that we want to bring to people’s attention like a short film rather than telling them orally, they will be more impressed with that thing. Take for example the advertisements that appear on our TVs. Even if those ads are only a few minutes long, what a profound effect they have on our minds. At first we only had television, where we used to watch only advertisements to make the public aware. But now in different TV channels we are seeing advertisements of even big things starting from a small toothbrush that we use.

In addition to all this we are now seeing many advertisements being aired by the government for the benefit of the people.

Nitin Gadkari shared a road safety ad
Even now the government is making many advertisements with many movie actors to make people aware about things like health related vaccines and road safety. Now one such advertisement has been shared by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday i.e. September 9 on his social media handle Twitter to promote road safety.

Ad starring Akshay Kumar
The ad aims to encourage people to use a car with six airbags instead of a car with two airbags to ensure greater safety in the event of an accident on the road. However, watch the ad starring Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar now accused of “promoting dowry”.

What’s in the video?
In the ad, Akshay Kumar stands by as a police officer during a wedding ceremony to send off his daughter to her husband’s house. Soon after the ad was shared, Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi condemned it, saying it ‘promotes dowry’ in the name of promoting road safety. “This is such a problematic ad. Is the government spending money to promote the safety aspect of the car or is it promoting the evil and criminal act of dowry through this ad?” He tweeted his question.

Several other users criticized the ad saying it asks people to invest in cars with six airbags instead of improving roads. “You can’t fix 3000 potholes on a 300 meter road, but are promoting those who sell expensive vehicles. First improve the roads,” wrote another social media user.
