The incident took place near Bade Gobra village, when a voting team accompanied by security personnel was returning from the polling station.
IG Raipur Range Arif Sheikh said, “The blast was carried out by Maoists who targeted the polling party returning from Bade Gobra polling station. ITBP chief Joginder Singh died in the blast.” said.
In Chhattisgarh, while the main contest is between the BJP and the Congress, a three-way contest is on the cards in many seats of Bilaspur division, where former CM Ajit Jogi’s party and the BSP have significant influence.
The first phase of the elections for 20 seats was held on November 7, and voter turnout reached 78 percent.
Election results will be declared on December 3 along with four other states – Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram.
