Denver, Colorado: Research in the United States has shown that if children have to go to school late in the morning, it has a positive effect on their own health as well as the health of their parents.
The study was conducted in dozens of private school schools in Denver, Colorado, where classes from kindergarten (KG) to twelfth grade started at 45 minutes to one and a half hours in the morning, while school ended at the same rate. The time was also changed.
The change in school hours lasted for two years, during which time children and their parents were asked about their daily routines and general health conditions.
The study, which began in 2017, was completed in 2019 and involved a total of more than 55,000 children and their parents.
A careful analysis of this information and data revealed that just one hour ahead of school start time in the morning significantly increased children’s academic performance.
At the same time, the parents of the children felt better, and they performed better on the job and in their daily activities.
“Children do not live in a separate space, but parents are an integral part of their daily routine,” said Dr. Lisa Meltzer, a professor of pediatrics at Denver’s National Jewish Health and The latest issue of Sleep Health I am also the main author of this study published in
Dr. Lisa says that most children are picked up by their parents to go to school in the morning, meaning they have to wake up before their children wake up. “Parents have to get up before their children can be picked up quickly,” he explained.
The extra time of 45 minutes to one hour a day also gave parents a better chance of getting enough sleep, which had a great effect on their overall health.
In the light of this research, experts say that we need to look at children’s education as a whole, as extending morning school hours a little longer is proving to be useful in many respects.
“Adequate sleep is directly linked to a number of benefits, including a healthy heart and proper weight. If this goal can be achieved by extending school time by a few minutes, then I think it should be considered, ”suggested Dr. Lisa.
It should be noted that this study is not final yet but there is room for further discussion as the most tried and tested traditional way of getting full and complete sleep is that all the family members including children and parents go to bed early at night so that they can get enough sleep early in the morning.
