Kalaburagi, September 22: A police constable and a driver were taking bribe from a person in connection with the transport of sand.
The incident which was caught red-handed by the Lokayukta police took place in Jewargi.
Police constable Shivaraya of Jewargi police station and driver Avvanna Lokayukta were caught in the attack. Constable Shivraya and driver Avvanna were conducting business in the police accommodation in Jewargi. Acting on a tip-off from Akhil Shahapura, the Lokayukta officials raided and seized the constable and the driver along with the money.
In connection with the sand disposal business, a bribery transaction was initiated by the complainant named Akhil. So, Akhil was instructed by Shivraya and Avvanna to come near the police accommodation house behind Jewargi police station to deliver the money as per the deal. Akhil had sent certain information to the Lokayukta officials about this. Acting on this information, Lokayukta DySP Siddalingappa Gowda Patil along with police inspectors Dhruvathare, Akkamahadevi, Nanagowda and staff Pradeep and Siddalinga raided and arrested both the accused.
Cinematic Arrest: The constable of Jewargi police station Shivaraya was trying to escape with money to escape from the Lokayukta officers, but the Lokayukta police managed to chase him and arrest him in a cinematic manner.
Later, both the accused were interrogated at a tourist temple on the outskirts of Jewargi and legal action was taken.
