TOKYO: Japan will provide $65 million in additional humanitarian aid to the Palestinians out of concern about the conflict in Gaza, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa said while visiting Israel and Jordan on Friday.
Speaking to reporters in Jordan after his meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen and his Palestinian counterpart Riyad al-Maliki, Kamikawa also said that Japan plans to provide financial aid to war-torn Gaza.

“In order to prevent the recurrence of another tragic terrorist act, Israel and Palestine must be able to coexist peacefully,” Kamikawa said. Kamikawa added that he conveyed to both Cohen and Maliki that Japan continues its support for the two-state solution. .
The visit comes just days before Japan prepares to host the foreign ministers of the Seven industrialized nations in Tokyo, as the crisis in Gaza deepens, Israel resists calls for a humanitarian pause and the leader of Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah group has warned. The clashes also spread to neighboring regions.
Kamikawa declined to comment on whether Israel’s attacks on Gaza were within the limits of international law, but said actors should comply with the spirit of protecting human rights and not cause unnecessary civilian deaths.
