No controversial action should be taken till final decision on tax appeals, FBR said
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) has directed the tax commissioners to refrain from taking stern action against the taxpayers. No action should be taken until final decisions on tax appeals.
The FBR prevented tax authorities from cracking down on taxpayers. According to FBR sources, the tax authorities have been directed to avoid unnecessary litigation with the taxpayers and not to take any controversial action till the final decision of the tax appeals. A committee should also be set up under each Chief Commissioner to deal with appeals.
These instructions were issued by the FBR after the restoration of the law on attaching bank accounts of tax evaders. Tax authorities have also been directed to save the expenses incurred on tax cases in various courts. Appeals should be prosecuted only in urgent tax matters. The issuance of notices on violations of rules and regulations should be stopped and ambiguity in court proceedings should be avoided.
