Hamas’ military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, said it had informed mediators that it was ready to release 50 women and children held hostage in Gaza in exchange for a five-day ceasefire.

“Qatar mediators made efforts to release Israeli detainees in exchange for the release of 200 Palestinian children and 75 women,” Al-Qassam Brigades spokesman Abu Ubeida said in his message on the Telegram channel on Monday. Xinhua news agency reported.

He stressed that the ceasefire should stop hostilities and allow aid to enter people in the region.

He emphasized that Israel’s ongoing land, sea and air offensive threatens the lives of themselves and detainees held by other armed Palestinian groups in Gaza.

Israel’s military operations came in retaliation for Hamas-led attacks on Oct. 7, in which nearly 1,200 people were killed and about 240 hostages taken in Israel, according to Israeli figures.
