“Gender Transformative Policy Key to Economic Development in the State” RS News

Patan- A meeting was held in Patna between Smt. Harjot Kaur Bamhra, CMD, Women and Child Development Corporation, Government of Bihar and Ms. Andrea M. Woznar, Representative of India and Director Bhutan, UNFPA. The aim of the meeting is to understand and strengthen the partnership of MoUs signed with UNFPA and Women and Child Development Corporation.
Smt. Harjot Kaur Bamhra in conversation with Ms. Andrea M. Woznar emphasized the need for gender transformative policy saying that this policy is the key to economic development in the state. Regarding the partnership between UNFPA and WCDC, the UNFPA will support the Corporation in conducting surveys and strengthening One Stop Centers in all 38 districts of Bihar to provide immediate support to women victims of gender-based violence. Simultaneously, POSCH will strengthen Internal Committees (I-C) and Local Committees (L-C) in the departments for effective implementation of ACT (Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace – Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal Act, 2013) and in 2015 The state will review the women empowerment policy so that the implementation of the policy can be expedited.
Ms. Woznar further added that by partnering with reputed institutions like Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Anugrah Narayan Sinha Institute of Social Studies (ANSISS), Bihar State Legal Services Authority (BSLSA) and other experts in the field of social science and law There is a need to develop a pool of resources on gender in Bihar. Ms Woznar further shared that UNFPA would like to promote gender inclusive GPDP and slum development across the state. UNFPA will work by bringing together women’s organizations, youth organizations and community groups to address gender discrimination and gender equality in society.
Ms. Woznar shared that with Anugrah Narayan Sinha Institute of Social Studies (ANSISS), we will try to bridge the gap in gender data that affects planning at the policy level, as well as use these data for government departments. capacity will be strengthened.
