PARIS: France’s foreign minister said on Thursday he had told his Iranian counterpart that Tehran would bear a heavy responsibility if the conflict in Gaza spreads to the region.
Catherine Colonna, in her statement after a face-to-face meeting in Geneva, said, “I am meeting with my Iranian counterpart today as a warning: prolonging the current conflict in Gaza will not benefit anyone and will bear a heavy responsibility on Iran.” Hossein Amirabdollahian.
This meeting was the last between French and Iranian officials, especially given that Paris is trying to defuse tensions between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah. Ties between France and Iran have also been strained in recent months after Paris arbitrarily detained four of its citizens, saying it was tantamount to a state hostage-taking.
