Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): After the assembly elections are held in the state, candidates are now worried about malfunction in EVMs. The fate of 52 candidates from the district was sealed in EVMs and kept in the strong rooms of the Government Engineering College (UEC) here.

The administration claimed to have kept the EVMs safe at the UEC, but Congress candidates fear there might be a glitch in the machines. Congress workers and BSP workers from Ghattiya, Ujjain South, Ujjain North and Nagda-Khachrod constituencies are also providing 24-hour surveillance in the CCTV room.

On Monday, MLA and Congress candidate from Ghattiya constituency Ramlal Malviya reached the UEC, where its employees had complained about repeated power outages and freezing of CCTV cameras.

Here, the employees complained to Malviya that the CCTV cameras installed here were turned off as the lights of the college went out again and again. Fearing any disturbance, Congress workers, including Malviya, spoke to collector Kumar Purushottam.

Malviya told the Free Press that UEC’s computer lab located near the strong rooms was found functional, raising suspicion of tampering with EVMs. According to him, a formal complaint has also been lodged with the State Election Commissioner in this regard, the collector assured that the issue will be resolved soon.

Likewise, Rajesh Trivedi, husband of Congress candidate Maya Trivedi from Ujjain North, said that there was a possibility of a malfunction in the machines due to the lights and CCTV being switched off, so the management should resolve the complaint soon with other arrangements. . Other Congress leaders will meet the collector on Tuesday.

Collector Kumar Purshottam said he received information that the lights were out. A backup is installed in the powerful room so that electricity can be restored instantly after a power outage. CCTV video comes 15 seconds after the lights are turned on. Maybe that’s why they’re expressing their concerns. However, we have made all the concrete arrangements in accordance with the instructions of the Election Commission.
