Osmanabad : Farmers in the district have not yet received last year’s crop insurance. Last year’s kharif crop was severely damaged. However, the crop insurance company had refused to pay compensation, citing the terms and conditions. Eventually, the case went to the high court and the compensation is stalled as the central government has not clarified its position. In it, the state government has filed its affidavit stating that the crop insurance company is required to pay compensation. However, the central government has not yet made any statement, according to the petitioner’s lawyers.

What exactly is the case?

Last year, farmers in Osmanabad district lost their crops. However, on the occasion of compensation, the insurance company neglected to pay compensation by stating different terms and conditions. As a result, many farmers are deprived of assistance. The farmers filed a petition on June 10, 2021 in the Aurangabad Bench of the Mumbai High Court. Notices were then issued to the concerned authorities. Accordingly, the state government presented its case before the court. However, the central government has not yet commented on the matter.

Insurance companies are affiliated with the central government. So as per the affidavit filed by the state government in favor of the farmers. His affidavit must also come from the Center. However, the central government has not yet commented on the matter. The criteria and conditions of NDRF and Crop Insurance Company are the same with few exceptions. The state government has compensated the farmers according to the same criteria. Similarly, the crop insurance company should also compensate the farmers. The state government has taken a stand that farmers should get help by making their point. But some insurance companies have asked for some time to make a statement.
