Pauri: A BJP leader’s son and two employees of a resort here were arrested on Friday for allegedly killing his receptionist, who was missing for the past few days.
A sub-inspector of revenue police has been suspended for allegedly misbehaving with the parents of the victim at the time of filing the complaint in the case, officials said.
Police said the three accused Pulkit Arya, who owns the resort in Yamkeshwar block here, resort manager Saurabh Bhaskar and assistant manager Ankit Gupta, were sent to 14-day judicial custody by a court.
Pulkit Arya is the son of BJP leader Vinod Arya from Haridwar. Vinod Arya was formerly the Chairman of Uttarakhand Mati Kala Board with the rank of Minister of State.
State party unit’s media in-charge Manveer Chauhan said that Vinod Arya is not currently holding any post in Uttarakhand BJP.
Police said the woman’s parents lodged a missing complaint at the revenue police post on Monday morning after she was not found in her room.
Pulkit Arya, Bhaskar and Gupta were arrested after they confessed to killing the woman. Pauri Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shekhar Chandra Suyal told PTI that they dumped his body in the Chila canal.
He said that initially he tried to mislead the police but when he was rigorously questioned, he confessed to his crime.
The ASP said a team has been sent to retrieve the woman’s body from the canal, adding that the matter came to light within 24 hours after it was transferred from the revenue police.
A Kotdwar court has sent the three accused to 14-day judicial custody, police said.
Vivek Kumar, the revenue police sub-inspector at Ganga Bhogpur Talla, was suspended for not promptly filing a report in the case, making the victim’s parents wait for two hours and misbehaving with them, officials said.
