Asad Qaiser was arrested in Islamabad after Anti-Corruption Agency Swabi registered a case against him for alleged corruption in the health department.

PESHAWAR: Former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser was arrested in Islamabad after Anti-Corruption Agency Swabi filed a case against him for alleged corruption in the health department.

In the FIR, 4 doctors, one of whom is a female doctor, are assigned, apart from Assad.

Reports said that Assad was arrested at his home in Islamabad.

“I was at home when the police and agency workers picked Asad Kaiser even though he was granted bail by the court in all cases,” a brother of the former speaker said in a video.

“Later, an ACE team was sent to the federal capital to shift the former speaker to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” sources added.

Former federal minister and PTI central general secretary Omar Ayub Khan condemned the arrest.

“We strongly condemn the arrest of Speaker Asad Kaiser on trumped-up charges fabricated by the Anti-Corruption Agency. Escaped prisoner Mian Nawaz Sharif, who was convicted by the court, is being facilitated and given the red carpet treatment, while PTI members are being arrested and victimized. Ironic!! This is called the Pre-Poll Trick!! “We demand a Level Playing Field,” he tweeted. Asad Qaiser, along with other PTI leaders, recently met JUIF chief Fazlur Rehman.

Before that, some former ministers and MPAs of KP’s PTI were arrested recently.

Former state minister Kamran Bangash was arrested in the state capital a few days ago.

A case against him surfaced in the northern town of Chitral the other day. Cases were also filed against some former ministers, MNAs and MPAs.
